new carpool lane on 10frwy east

dang! the newly opened lane is so close to the rail road tracks with a
freakingly low dividing wall! can't imagine the potential disaster
that can occur if a train derails or a car jumps into the tracks @ 80
mph (Angelenos' freeway average cruising speed).

the double security doors I go in to every working day. I have so far

on the Foothill Transit Silver Streak eastbound bus. an unusually
looong bus. it's looks like a caterpillar and is basically 2 buses
connected together with a rubber accordion looking contraption in the
middle. functional and a pretty effiient people mover.

finally decided (bravely) to upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 I actually have
more confidence with Ubuntu 9.10 than Windows 7.

dusk @ the disney concert hall

actually a very nice touristy spot to wait for my bus. I don't see any
more tourist around, it's a good idea not to stay out when darkness
falls in LA. unlike NY, the LA downtown area is a ghost town in the
evening. you have to drive several blocks to LA Live for some after
work fun at the Staples Center or Nokia.... all is well on a Tuesday
evening. let's all hope it stays that way.

crashing tuesday.

a pickup truck crashed into our bus while passengers were boarding
from the bus stop. just as boarding started at 6:20am, there was a
loud crashing sound that everyone heard coming from the opposite lane.

a pickup truck was taking out a wooden fence, parts and splinters of
the fence was flying all over the place, just like a Hollywood movie.
the truck then jumped across lanes, hopped the island divider and hit
the back of the bus.

people actually started taking cover behind the bus for protection
when the truck jumped the divider and started going towards us. the
driver did not even break, there was no screeching o tires or tire
marks on the road. no one gor hurt.

from my assessment it seems like the driver fell asleep. upon closer
observation of his truck, it looked like we was construction worker
(yellow helmet, orange vest, tool belt..etc) maybe just coming home
from a night shift.

lesson learned, always always be aware of your surroundings when on
the street, specially when with kids. what a morning.
